Spokane Veterans Forum Meetings

The monthly Forum meetings are inclusive gatherings of veteran defendants, SVF mentors, SVF Operations staff, VET Court officers and community service organizations.

The monthly Forum meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the National Guard Readiness Center, east of the Spokane Community College Campus.  Click here to get a map and directions.

Judges, elected officials and congressional staff are frequent visitors to the Forum.  Many of these visitors come from distant regions of Washington State and from other states.

The following is a typical agenda for the monthly Forum:

5:00 – 6:00 PM, Networking Time

  • This time interval presents a vital opportunity for informal face-to-face contacts between veterans defendants, mentors and their mentees (veteran defendants) as well as for mentees to familiarize/avail themselves of the valuable services provided by attending representatives of community service provider organizations.
  • A meal is also served to SVF participants and guests during this time interval.  The food is provided by the Forum or by volunteer organizations without charge to all participants.

6:00 – 8:15 PM, Educational Programs

  • The Forum sponsors two, 50 minute educational sessions that cover topics that are relevant to the veteran defendants’ recovery process, community reintegration and life skills.  Educational programs are facilitated by professional practitioners and noted academicians who are experts in their respective fields.

8:00 – 8:15 PM, Graduation Ceremonies

Veteran defendants who have successfully completed their recovery program and legal requirements mandated by the VET Courts are honored by a graduation ceremony.

SVF Mentor Training

Mentors participate in monthly training meetings that cover topics, skills and techniques which are helpful to Mentors as they fulfill their essential function to support SVF Veteran Defendants who are working to recover from the personal impacts of PTSD, TBI and/or MST.

The mentor training meetings are scheduled monthly and conducted between 5:00 and 6:30 PM on the first Thursday of each month.  The meetings are held at the Army National Guard Readiness Center east of the Spokane Community College Campus.  A free, pizza meal is provided to participants by the Forum.
