Our History
The Spokane Veterans Treatment Court was established in Spokane District Court in August 2010 with the support of a Department of Justice grant, followed by the creation of Spokane Municipal Court in 2012. The program was launched under the leadership of the Honorable Judge Vance Peterson, the Honorable Judge Mary Logan, and the Honorable Fred Aronow, USA (RET), who also serves as the Washington State Ambassador. The court was designed to offer justice-involved veterans alternative legal options under RCW 2.30.010.
Since its inception, the Spokane Veterans Enhanced Treatment Court (VET) has provided treatment to over 50 veteran defendants annually. The Spokane Veterans Forum (SVF) program plays a crucial role in preparing these veterans for reintegration into society, enabling them to reclaim their roles as productive citizens while saving the community the substantial costs of incarceration. Remarkably, 65 veteran defendants have reported that, without the intervention of the Spokane Veterans Forum, they would have contemplated suicide.
